How to clean an office properly

Even a small, conscientious work team can unintentionally contribute to a dirty workspace. Think of the number of times all those hands regularly touch the equipment and surfaces, the tiny crumbs dropped during numerous lunches, and the various coughs and sneezes that didn’t get caught by a tissue.
Yuk!

Add to that any clients or visitors that come to your workplace and there is potentially a lot of germs and dirt!

A thorough clean by a professional is a must for maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness. Here are some essentials for a spick and span workplace.

  1. Target germ-prone areas
Touchpoints – areas and items that are in frequent contact with hands and mouths – need to be both cleaned and disinfected. Phone handsets, keyboards, light switches, kettle and door handles – all places that need more than a quick wipe. A cleaner will clean them thoroughly and apply a disinfectant product to eradicate any germs and nasties.
  2. Move furniture and IT equipment
Cleaning an office is not like cleaning your house. Do we always move everything every time? For most of us, probably not! In an office, there’s a duty to ensure a healthy environment for your staff.
A cleaner will get behind, between and underneath all those hard to reach spaces every time they clean your premises. What’s more, we can clean specialist equipment such as drinks machines, too.
  3. A methodical approach is important
Cleaning ‘from top to bottom’ isn’t just a saying – it’s exactly how professionals approach the job! There are lots of surfaces high up that are prime places for dust and cobwebs to settle – kitchen cupboards, fans and light fittings, for example. Starting at the highest point ensures any debris falls and can be wiped away or vacuumed as a cleaner makes their way down to the floor.Generally, we’ll start by dusting, wiping and disinfecting surfaces before finishing with a thorough vacuum and mop.
  4. Daily cleaning needs to be thorough
It’s all in the detail – people tend to spot what hasn’t been cleaned rather than what has. A simple swish with a duster will not do the job! If you’re in your office day in, day out, you will likely only notice the areas you use the most but a cleaner will ensure that every surface is clean, not just the ones most frequently seen.A good daily clean will prevent dirt and germs accumulating and building up.
  5. Work with your cleaner to ensure a good job!
It’s important you do your bit to help your cleaner do the best job they can. Although moving various items and equipment is part of the job, an excessively untidy workspace makes the job much more difficult, time-consuming and ultimately, costly for you.As much as possible, make sure paperwork is tidied away, the floorspace is reasonably clear and cutlery, crockery and cups are at least rinsed and/or put in a dishwasher. Also, ensure any accidental spillages are cleaned up as much as possible. Tea stains on a carpet or ink blots on a desk are much harder to clean if left to dry.
